Tiny Plankton

Final picoplankton review – wrap up report from Y2 & eDNA/molecular methods

(1) Tiny plankton as indicators of pelagic diversity and food webs

Plankton taxa groups under 20 microns (aka “tiny plankton”) are fast growing and respond rapidly to ocean conditions. Their high biomass, consistent enumeration with flow cytometry, and links to environment and to higher trophic levels make six of the tiny plankton lifeforms valuable indicators of ocean health, Good Environmental Status, diversity, and food webs.
