Harmful Algal Blooms: Challenges and options for policy makers

A Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) is an algal bloom which can have a (potential) negative impact on human health, society, the aquatic ecosystem, or associated industries. A HAB is not a biological term as the grouping is based on a ‘negative impact’ and contains a variety of organisms, behaving and responding to pressures in a variety of different ways. This report focuses on HABs that impact the marine environment.

HABs Synthesis Report

Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) can affect many elements of our coastal and marine systems and there is an urgent need to know more about what drives these impacts.

Detection Of UK HAB Hotspots From Satellite Ocean Colour

Detection of UK HAB hotspots from satellite ocean colour

Using satellite data and statistical approaches to identify coastal areas in UK waters that experience the greatest risk of regular high biomass algae bloom events.
